An exceptional late-Victorian oil on canvas by Charles Stuart FSA, entitled Sunshine and Mists, exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1892.

This atmospheric landscape captures Stuart’s masterful handling of light, weather, and terrain — a hallmark of his mature period. The composition balances luminous foreground greens with distant, mist-laden hills beneath a dramatic sky, demonstrating the refined naturalism that made his work popular with collectors and institutions in the late 19th century.

The painting is presented in an ornate gilt period frame that complements the warmth and depth of the composition beautifully.
