Original Herbert Hughes Stanton Sketchbook Study

A charming and atmospheric original sketch by noted British artist Herbert Hughes Stanton, depicting what appears to be a sunlit Mediterranean coastal landscape with tall pines framing a distant fortified settlement overlooking the sea.

This delicate work was reportedly removed from one of the artist’s personal sketchbooks and was acquired directly from the Stanton family by Phoenix Arts. Provenance is attached to the reverse.

Executed in pencil with subtle pastel colouring, the sketch beautifully demonstrates Stanton’s ability to capture light, space, and atmosphere with an economy of line. The composition has an immediacy and freshness typical of an artist working directly from observation.

Presented in an attractive frame and ready to display.
