Charles Bridge Prague
This appears to be an unfinished work. Old label verso also attributing to Prout. There is another finished work of this scene, which sold through Christie’s along with another Prout work. Prout would draw pencil sketches in the outdoors and then produce whole new works using them as a reference. This one was possibly a first attempt at recreating the scene.
Prout was highly regarded and held the position of Painter In Watercolours In Prdinary to King George iv and later to Queen Victoria. John Ruskin was a huge fan of Prouts work and once said; ‘Sometimes I tire of Turner but never of Prout.’
12 ¼" x 8 ¾" (31cm x 22.5cm Actual painting size. A beautiful work.
